International flights from the airport of Kukes could begin at the end of the year. This is confirmed by Transport Minister Edmond Haxhinasto, in an interview for "Top Channel", who says that the operation of the airport concession may or may be managed by a public company.
The latter is the most likely option, but is required an investment of about 3 million.
"We think that in normaly, until the end of this year the airport should be operational. There is a bill of 3 million euro for interference. I believe that there is a need for review of this situation, then there is need for intervention. Or we will continue to invest public money," says Edmond Haxhinasto, Minister of Transport.Haxhinasto confirmed that are two low-cost operators, "Ryan Air" and "Wizz Air", which have expressed their interest, and even made inspection of the runway and terminal.
"Especially low-cost companies, two of them have come, have visited, inspected and have been awaiting the opening of the removal of exclusivity and to be prepared for the possibility of using the airport as a possible basis. Especially for the low cost category," said Haxhinasto.
As for airport in the South of the country the Government has commissioned a feasibility study to select the location where the terminal and the first track will be built.
