Albanian Minister of Environment, Lefter Koka took part in the 5th Assembly of the GEF - Global Environmental Fund, held in Mexico. The meeting examined and adopted a series of important documents relating to the policies and priorities of the GEF in the next four years.
Albania is a member of the GEF and at this meeting was represented by a delegation headed by the Minister of Environment, who met with Mexican Secretary for Environment, Juan José Guerra Abud and the President of GEF, Naoko Ishii.
The Assembly approved the priorities and objectives of the GEF for the next four years. The main areas of this assistance are related in the financing of projects in the field of environment, land degradation, climate change, biodiversity, forests, water and chemicals.
Albania has benefited and will continue to be supported by the GEF for the next four years. This funding will be in the form of projects for the above areas and in total goes around 10 million dollars. Albania will also be benefiting from GEF additional funds for a variety of regional and cross-border projects that will be funded these four years, such as transboundary waters where priority will have Drin River basin and the waters of the Adriatic and Ionian seas.
