100 years ago, the founding father of the Albanian Autocephalous Orthodox Church held the country’s first official mass in the Albanian language in Durrës. Honoring this centennial though by installing a bust of the Fan Noli proved to be a controversial effort. The local church officials feared a symbolic spite to the current non-Albanian Archbishop in Tirana, but leaders of a new patriotic organization, Foleja, were determined to pay respect to their timeless spiritual leader.
