The head of the SMI Ilir Meta apparently is not afraid of an investigation of the CEZ issue. Mr. Meta supported a proposal made by the former prime minister Sali Berisha, asking for an international investigation into whether Meta was involved in corruption. Mr. Meta made the following comments today: “I strongly support the idea of an international and comprehensive investigation into the CEZ issue, and I invite the heads of the parliamentary parties to ask for the help of the U.S. prosecutors in the investigation.
I think Berisha must make this request, and so should anyone else if they really are committed to decriminalization and the fight against corruption. Decriminalizing the parliament is necessary, and when high officials are accused, we support the idea that u.s. prosecutors should investigate their cases, in the framework of the justice reform” -said the assembly speaker.
Responding to the democrat’s request for his resignation, Mr. Meta declared that the opposition must wait for two more years before they will get him to step down.
