Germany allocates € 3 mln for Infrastructure and Water supply in 7 Cities

 German Bank KfW is implementing in 7 cities of Albania a programme of investments in the sector of water, which is EUR 65 mln in worth, of which EUR 30 mln have been allocated by Germany, EUR 10 mln by Switzerland and EUR 25, 5 mln by EU.


The ambassador of the Federal Republic of Germany, Hellmut Hoffmann, accompanied by a group of journalists inspected the works in water supply and sanitation enterprise UK Berat-Kuçovë, a project worth EUR 9.3 mln, which will bring potable water from Bogova spring to nearly 130 thousand inhabitants.


During the visit the delegation inspected the situation in water depot “1 Maji“ in the area of Berati castle where representative of KfW Bledar Dollaku made an overview of the Financial Cooperation project involving the partners and KfW in the light of the programme for commune infrastructure, water supply and sewage network in Berat-Kuçovë.

Dollaku said that the reconstruction works in Berat and Kuçova have started on March 27, 2015 and will last around 24 months. They are expected to reduce the losses from 80% to 30%, increase water supply by 50%, improvements which will benefit as many as 130 thousand inhabitants.
The project includes a number of technical measures such as: rehabilitation of secondary and tertiary distribution networks in Berat and Kuçova through restructuring of the network, replacement of existing pipes and installing new ones, replacement of around 3300 household connections, installation of water meters for consumers, construction of a new building for the water supply and sewage network staff UK Berat-Kuçova, consignment of operating equipment and fencing the site where the used water treatment plant will be built.

Afterwards, they headed to the project for rehabilitation of the main transmission line in Mount Tomorri , damaged by the landslides. The main pipe of Bogova which has been damaged by the landslides will be replaced.

For his part, ambassador Hoffmann said it is very important to closely see the commitment of German govt. and international partners to improving the quality of life in Albania where, apart from Berati and Kuçova, there are other cities in need of intervention.
