The Shakespearean play “Hamlet” was premiered yesterday evening for a restricted public of friends and journalists at the Experimental theater.
After left politics, Luiza Xhuvani returned to her natural habitat - the theater - to interpret the lead role of Hamlet. This is not the first time that the role of hamlet has been interpreted by a female, but this has been done on the world stages, and never before on the Albanian stage.
The director of the play is Enko Fezollari, who brings Shakespear’s Hamlet with a contemporary concept by, shifting the character of Hamlet from male to female, thus increasing the inclusive dimension of the work, and the character.
In addition, the director has modernized the play, shifting the time period and location from Denmark in 1600 to Tirana of the present day. The actress Luiza Xhuvani will perform together with 12 other players, all appearing on stage for the first time.
The inclusion of these young actors was a promise from the director of the theater, to support the new generation of actors. The play has a duration of about two hours, and will be shown on October 10th and 11th, at 8 pm.
