Albania is one of the first countries in Europe, following the United States, regarding a new treatment for patients with metastatic breast cancer.
This treatment provides for the use of a different therapy for each patient, which will be called a personalized therapy, so to combat the disease and prolonging patient survival of 20 months more.
Breast cancer is the most common cancer in Albania. It’s the cause of cancer mortality in the country, while the number of new cases diagnosed with breast cancer is 450 per year.
Head of the Oncology Ward at the Hospital “Mother Teresa”, Agim Sallaku said that “for patients with metastatic breast cancer the goal of this treatment is to prolong survival, reduce symptoms and complications associated with tumor, enabling the patient to live a normal life”.
