Albania produces 100% of its energy from water sources, but this amount does not satisfy all the needs of domestic consumption, which offset through imports.
In a plan that provides for how to develop renewable energy in the next 5 years, the Government plans to protect the investments to be carried out to produce energy from the sun and wind, to alleviate the dependence on hydropower, which today is frequently affected by weather fluctuations.
"For the first time new capacities expected to support schemes for wind and photovoltaic sources, including new projects for which there has been much interest. Being that we are a selfproductive country, so customers who want to produce energy by their own, the state will guarantee the purchase of 50 MW capacity of solar photovoltaic and 30 megawatts of wind energy," said Entela Çipa, Energy Advisor, MEI.
But what is the formula that will determine the price, which the state will guarantee the purchase of this amount of energy, and will this be reflected in the cost?
"The amount is not clear, but the problem we have had is with the price. We are seeing several options, one can be in the framework of market liberalization, the goods gets to the market and the price difference to guarantee by state, but without creating the problem of non reflecting the cost of purchasing energy from renewable sources in the fee of customers. So the fee will be reflected, not as it was established in KESH gap," said Entela Çipa.
Efforts to increase sources of energy produced from clean sources have started earlier. During 2007-2008, the Government gave permission for the construction of several parks that create energy from wind. Indeed, the campaign did not spare the tourist areas, as was the case of the Gulf of Karaburun, that was followed by mass protests by environmental associations.
But since then, wind energy project remained on paper, as many other energy projects.
