Turkish prosecutors demanded life imprisonment for two journalists of opposition newspaper Xhumhyrjet on charges of releasing state secrets through an article they published, according to which the government of President Erdogan was trying to send weapons to Islamic militants in Syria.
The prosecution also asked the court to sentence Istanbul newspaper editor Gian Dundar to life imprisonment and the head of the local office of Ankara, Erdem Gul to 30 years in prison, as Doan news agency reported.
Dundar and Gul were arrested in November. Since then they have been held in a prison on the outskirts of Istanbul. .
