European Union approved today ten million euros aid to Macedonia in managing the refugee crisis.
Johannes Hahn. Commissioner for European Neighbourhood Policy and Enlargement Negotiations, says: "The crisis of refugees has put a high pressure on countries along the way and Europe must stand united in addressing this situation. This new funding will help the authorities of the Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia to improve border and migration management and support costs for their country's southern border."
Considering the request for assistance from the former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia and the Commission results carried out in January 2016 with the technical support of the EU Border Agency, this special measure aims at supporting the former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia to improve border control and migration management, including systematic border checks and border surveillance, identification and registration of third country nationals who cross the border regularly or irregularly, as well as combating and preventing migrant-smuggling, human trafficking and cross-border crime in full respect of the rule of law and fundamental rights.
