European Commissioner for Migration Dimitris Avramopoulos will visit Tirana on Friday, at a time when thousands of refugees are in northern Greece, waiting for the opening of borders by neighboring countries.
A day earlier Avramopoulos visited the camp of Idomeni in his country, Greece.
The Commissioner praised the efforts of the Greek authorities and those international organizationsthat have offered help to refugees."We all have the same objective: to meet effectively the needs of refugees and to ease their suffering. Together we can reach a common approach just using all the financial resources and political material that we have available. Now, the priority is humanitarian aid and their movement from Idomenia in safer areas in Greece or other Member States," said Avramopoulos.
In Greece, there are currently about 45 thousand people, 12 thousand of them in Idomeni, suggests the European Commission Representation in Grecce.
Next week Albania will be visited by the Italian Interior Minister Angelino Alfano to discuss a joint plan for this international crisis.
