The President of the Republic of Kosovo, Atifete Jahjaga, along with the Duchess of Cornwall, Camilla Rosemary, met today with a group of women-survivors of sexual violence during the War in Kosovo.
Kosovo Presidency said that in this meeting were also present several women of NGOs that provide services for this category.
President Jahjaga expressed gratitude for the attention that Duchess of Cornwall is paying to this grave wound of society, as a result of war, she heard stories of the women of Kosovo, as a very powerful message of support to all survivors of sexual violence during the War in Kosovo, the Presidency said in a statement.Furthermore, Presidency press said that sexual violence is used as a weapon of war in Kosovo to violate the dignity of the victims, and to revive the feeling of fear and oppression, to promote the displacement and to strip an entire society of its human values.
"The Duchess of Cornwall said she had a chance to hear a similar story in other countries of the world, but nowhere she has heard this so painful and horrible story of war crime."
"She made her effort that the stories of women of Kosovo to be heard abroad, encouraging them to share their stories to break the social stigma which covers the crime of war", said among other things the Presidency press.
