The Albanian government and the FBI (Federal Bureau of Investigation in the United States) have signed a cooperation agreement on the fight against terrorism and organized crime. This document is signed by Interior Minister Saimir Tahiri and FBI Director James Comey, in the presence of Albanian Prime MInister Edi Rama.
This is the first agreement of its kind signed by an Interior Minister in the history of relations between the State Police and the FBI. The purpose of this bilateral agreement, as it is mentioned by the Albanian authorities is to promote the exchange of information for the verification of information in the fight against terrorism with the aim of strengthening joint efforts against terrorism. The agreement provides for the parties to designate one or more contact points between them. For the Albanian side, the focal point will be the Anti-Terror Department of the State Police and for the US side will be TSC (Terrorism Screening Center).The agreement was preceded by a meeting between the head of the FBI Comey and Prime Minister Rama. According to reports from this meeting the Albanian Government is estimated by FBI Director on fighting against crime, terrorism and corruption and reforms in the security sector. FBI Director is committed to help State Police in particular for the training of the Albanian Police by FBI academy, for continuous training of Albanian investigators and investigative infrastructure.
FBI Director also pledged to assist the establishment of the National Bureau of Investigation, structure, human resources and its investigative capacity.
