In Albania, US Ambassador Donald Lu said today that the country has the lowest rate of prosecutions for serious crimes in Europe and the problem is the impunity.
Speaking at a conference organized by the Marshall Center in Tirana, the US ambassador said that "in Albania those charged as key drug traffickers and crime bosses rarely face criminal charges. Powerful crime bosses can get away easily because of their connections with influential people."
He brought back the example of a well-known name of the underworld, Emiljano Shullazi" a trafficker convicted of drug trafficking, which for many years has been charged with murder, drug trafficking and threats but only recently was arrested."
