"Greeks must allow Chams to return back to their homes. Let them go to lay flowers on the graves of their ancestors" So said Doris Pack some times ago, the German MEP. In a moment, when they were discussing the issue of the Greek minority, as Greek MEPs had expressed dissatisfaction with the treatment of Greek minority in Albania, meanwhile the Members of Albanian Parliament of Chams orphan childrens in Brussels, stated that the rights of minorities in Albania are strictly respected, while the rights of Albanians in Greece are consistently violated.
It is about 2006, when the demand of a deputy Greek, Demetriou Panayiotis, for the observance of the Greek minority in Albania caused all Albanian deputies to replicated, saying that despite the very satisfactory situation for of the rights of the Greek minority, Greece continues not to recognize the rights of Chams. In these debate intervened the German MEP Doris Pack, at that time president of the European Parliament delegation for Southeast Europe, when she stated:
"Greece must allow representatives of this community to visit their homeland and this is a great human problem. Greece should allow the Cham population to visit and lay flowers on the graves of their ancestors. "
She noted that the Cham file arrived in Europe and requires democratic solution. What seemed quite surprising was the reaction of the Greek MEP, Panayiotis Demetriou, who said:
"Greece as a member of the European Union should definitely solve this problem and should respect human rights and human values."
This proves that the Cham issue is at the gates of Brussels for ten years, whereas a few weeks ago, through one of the most senior officials, Commissioner Johannes Hahn, Brussels decided to accept the Cham issue.
