Died at the age of 95, the famous Austrian scholar Prof. Dr. Hermann Ölberg. Academy of Sciences of Albania expressed condolences for this loss.
In the tradition of the Austro-German school of Philology, Hermann Ölberg, known for his research in the field of indo-german languages, devoted his mind and intellect on the Albanian language and its history, study and teaching of Albanian at the University of Innsbruck, who also led for a long time the branch of Albanology studies.
He went into this road of life immediately after completing undergraduate studies, devoting postgraduate studies and specialization on Albanian language and culture.Prof. dr. Hermann Ölberg followed the path opened by the great Austrian linguists who chose Albanology as a field of study, Norbert Jokl, who in 1972, on the 50th anniversary of Nazi victimization devoted an international scientific conference, acts of which are today a bridge to penetrate the depth of the Albanian language.
The late Hermann Ölberg has published many scientific articles in Albanian and has participated in numerous scientific conferences on Albanian language and culture. Hermann Ölberg, since 2005 holds the honorary title of "Doctor honoris causa" of the University of Tirana.
Ölberg Hermann made the life of a simple man and honest. He was a researcher, lecturer and friend honored by all who had the chance to know him or via his scientific flows.
"With the death of prof. dr. Hermann Ölberg, the Albanian language and our national culture, lost a scholar of the first order and the Academy of Sciences of Albania a precious friend.
Academy of Sciences shares its condolences to the community of Albanologists researchers in Austria, in Albania and abroad," writes the Academy of Sciences of Albania.
