High Representative of the European Union Federica Mogherini asked Thursday to Macedonian President Gjorge Ivanov to give the mandate for forming the new government to Zoran Zaev.Mrs.
Mogherini, which is located in Skopje, where he held meetings with leaders of political parties, said on behalf of the EU that "demand from President Gjorge Ivanov to not violate the basic principles of democracy and to reflect and change the decision that rejects the mandate of Zoran Zaev, the second leader of the winning party in elections ".
Ms Mogherini statement comes after President Ivanov refused to give the prime mandate to SDSM leader Zoran Zaev, although he has secured the support of 67 MPs out of 120 who has the Macedonian parliament.Ivanov argued that according to him this represents a risk for the independence and sovereignty of Macedonia's main Albanian party platforms. Three Albanian parties that supported Mr. Zaev reacted quite harshly.
