The Albanian Prosecutor's office announced today that 10 policemen and 8 customs officers were arrested for organizing illegal cannabis trafficking in neighboring Italy.
In the statement is noted that the detainees had a form of cooperation on at least two occasions when trucks in Italy were found filled with 11 tons of cannabis, which had passed by or through Albania. If convicted they could face up to 20 years in prison for drug trafficking.Last year, the Albanian authorities destroyed nearly 2.5 million plants of marijuana, four times more than in 2015, and seized many tons of marijuana at border crossings or ships sailed to Greece and Italy, reports Associated Press .
