The first President of Macedonia, Kiro Gligorov, said long time ago that Macedonians want to build a new identity that connects with ancient Macedonia, regardless of their Slavic origin.

Gligorov has fallen prey to attempted attack after these words, but survived.

He said that Macedonia has no connection to Alexander the Great.

"We are Slavs who came to this territory in the 6th century. We have no connection with the civilization of the time of Alexander," said Gligorov after a meeting with the former President of Albania, Sali Berisha on June 6, 1992, as can be seen in this video transmitted by Greek media./Oculus News
