Nearly 700 people in northern Albania, mostly in Shkodra will not vote in the June 25 parliamentary elections. These citizens can not go to the ballot box because they are afraid that can be killed. They are deprived of their right because of the phenomenon of blood feud that continues to be present ". So stated for Albanian newspaper "Gazeta Shqiptare" the head of the Association of Reconciliation of Blood, Nikollë Shullani.
According to him, the people who are deprived of the right to vote are from Tropoja, Puka, Lezha, Mirdita, Malësi e Madhe and mostly from Shkodra.
"These people are afraid to cross the doorstep for fear the assassination can kill them, so they can not go out to exercise their right. Normally they like to vote like all other free citizens of Albania, but they can not fulfill their wish because they risk being killed. I am in constant and almost daily communication with these families," said the head of the Reconciliation. Meanwhile, he claimed that these people could vote, albeit with fear, while this time the state structures did not intervene to enable 700 people in blood feud to vote.Blood Feud
"Before these families managed to vote, though not all of them. Most of them have been accompanied by stringent security measures by police forces and have been able to vote. They were accompanied at the moment they left home to the polling stations, but also in returning to their homes. This time, there is no engagement from the State Police for families in blood feuds to exercise their right to vote. Apparently, the electoral campaign has involved in the momentum of work also the Police, by not thinking about the insiders to vote like everyone else.
"In this case, state structures should intervene and must enable families in blood feuds, those who are at the age of right to choose. Before to the sick or other layers are sent to their home the ballot boxes and this can also be applied to the families in blood feud accompanied by the police," said Nikolla Shullani.
Thus, the risk for those in the blood is great if they venture out of the houses and turn to the ballot boxes. This can be done only by state structures, so I urge them to do so because I do not think there is any person in Albania who does not want to vote," concluded Nikolla Shullani./Oculus News
