Russia handed over formally six MiG-29 fighter planes to Serbia, in the framework of the ceremonies marking the anniversary of Belgrade's liberation in World War II.
Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu and Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic attended yesterday the reception at a military airport on the outskirts of Belgrade, according to Radio Free Europe.
Serbia marked yesterday the liberation day of Belgrade on October 20, 1944 by the Nazi occupation, organizing military parade and other manifestations.Historians say nearly 3,000 Yugoslav soldiers and 1,000 Russian soldiers were killed during the final offensive for the liberation of Belgrade.
Six MiG-29 aircraft have been send dismantled In Belgrade by Russia's convoys of aircraft over the past three weeks.
These airplanes have been delivered to Belgrade free of charge, but their completion and repair is expected to cost approximately $ 235 million.
President Vucic said that these fighter planes will be activated at the end of this year after repairing and training the pilots..
