The issue of the name was one of the topics that Greek Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras and US Vice President Mike Pence talked on Sunday in Washington, the Greek media reported, referring to sources from the prime minister's cabinet.
At the meeting, Greek Prime Minister "stated clearly that the neighboring country should take concrete steps to move forward and become a NATO member." Cyprus also stressed that the US could play an important role on Macedonia's side in order for the country to take the necessary steps to resolve the name issue.Aty the meeting was also reiterated the US and Greek support for Macedonia's Euro-Atlantic path, as well as for its people.
On behalf of US Pence confirmed his country's strong position for Macedonia's Euro-Atlantic course "for which considers it is very important to continue and fully recognize the importance of resolving the name issue".
At the meeting between Tsipras and Pence there was no surprise over the debate on Macedonia nor has any pressure been made, sources from the Greek PM's cabinet stressed.
