In the framework of the operation "Force of Law", Albanian police have identified the main criminal gangs in the country. According to police, they are 40, with activities ranging from thefts and trafficking, to hostages and killings.
The Central and Regional Task Force set up to run the "Force of Law" operation have in their hands a map of organized crime activity in Albania. 3 weeks after the start of this operation, experts have filed around 40 criminal groups operating in 12 municipalities of the country.
The city of Durres is considered to be the hottest area due to the geographic position and influence that brings the country's largest port. Only in Durrës and Shijak there are at least 7 criminal groups. The city of Vlora ranks second with at least 5 criminal groups suspected of having spread their activity across the Adriatic.The criminal bands map |
According to the police, two criminal groups identified in Tirana have been inactive recently, due to the fact that one of these groups is hit in 2016 by police. Korça, Kukës, Berat, Lezha, Gjirokastra and Dibra seem to be the least affected by the "Force of Law" although the police are updating the data in its database.
From scanning criminal groups it turns out that 53% of them deal with narcotics cultivation and trafficking, 11% with illegal trafficking, 18% with serious crimes like murder and kidnapping, and 18% with economic crime
Looking at the map, it turns out that the majority of the gangs operate Center and South Albania, attracted mainly by the ports of Durrës and Vlora, where they can spread easily abroad their activity - mainly the cannabis trafficking one.
