Macedonia's parliament voted to lift the immunity of six opposition MPs accused by the Public Prosecutor of Macedonia for participating in the April 27 violent events in parliament. 67 MPs out of 120 of the Macedonian Parliament voted on Friday for lifting the mandate of their collegues.
Opposition lawmakers boycotted the session, saying it was politically motivated.This opens the way for the Court of Appeal to issue an order for their detention. MPs are accused of "terrorist violation of the constitutional order and security of the country".
The Office of the General Prosecutor has filed charges against 36 people following the forcible entry into the Parliament of protesters during the parliamentary session, where more than 100 people were injured.
The indictment for "terrorist threat to constitutional order and security" was filed against the accused. If found guilty, the defendant may be sentenced to a minimum of 10 years in prison.
Nineteen people, including the former interior minister, were sentenced from 30 days in prison and are pending the trial; three others are being held under house arrest..
