Western Balkan countries will improve the main transport corridors and will expand trade as a result of World Bank support through a new project announced today.
The Trade and Transport Facilitation Project aims to improve border crossing points, the efficiency of logistics services and the introduction of intelligent technology in freight and passenger transport by accelerating customs clearance processes.
"Citizens of Western Balkan countries will benefit from a lower transport cost and trade expansion as a result of the $ 150 million trade and transport facilitation project," said Kristalina Georgieva, World Bank's Executive Director."According to our estimates, benefits are expected to be at about $ 1 billion a year - an important contribution in the framework of regional efforts to boost economic growth, job creation and the creation of opportunities for as many people as possible."
Georgieva made this announcement at the Conference on Greater Integration of the Balkan Countries, organized by Bulgarian Prime Minister Boyko Borissov.
