Albania ranks first in global positions for the high presence of banks in the financial system.
In a study by the World Bank "Banks Without Borders" is shown that during 2013-2015, foreign banking capital in Albania is as much as 46.6 percent of GDP, while 85 percent of assets are dominated by foreigners.
In Montenegro, this presence is much weaker. Foreign banks account for only 25 percent of GDP.In Serbia foreign banks are as much as 48 percent of GDP, but other foreign capital indicators in the market are lower than in Albania.
While in Macedonia foreign banks are as much as 30 percent of GDP.
The capital structure continues to be dominated by foreign capital, which at the end of 2016 represents approximately 88.50% of the paid-in capital of the banking system, down by about 0.55 percentage points versus the end of 2015.
The capital structure in the Albanian banking system is dominated by Turkey with 29.2 percent of the capital structure through the National Commercial Bank.
The second place in the banking capital structure is Austrian by 15.8% through Raffeisen Bank. 15.8% is also the percentage occupied by Italian-owned banks.then the Greek banks with 13.3 per cent.
In 2016, 5.2% of banks' capital were French and 3.1% German.
