Greek media have considered a closed chapter the agreement between Albania and Greece for exclusive economic zones.
This is how the Greek media "Energypress.gr" writes in an article published on February 9, that a statement from two governments is expected soon. As the Greek media writes, the agreement will be implemented very soon, and Greece will launch the oil searching on 1 and 2 sea block."As it is well known, the Albanian side in the past has reacted fiercely to the possibility of exploring for oil in the Ionian Sea, considering that the blocks 1 and 2 are areas of its territory. The story of the formation of Exclusive Economic Zones with Albania is long but seems to be finally closed after the agreement that, according to "Energypress", the two governments are expected to be officially announced soon.
Unspecified information shows that with the agreement, the Greek side acknowledges that the definition of 'EEZ' has been partly methodologically inaccurate until today, a view that Albania has supported so far," the article continues.
Greek government officials seem to be optimistic that the problems of the past, from the opposition of Greece to the Greek oil exploration activity in the region, will no longer be repeated."
