There is no gas for Albania, TAP cannot be exploited

The oil that will pass from Azerbaijan to Albania and then to Europe through the Trans Adriatic Pipeline (TAP) will not be able to be used immediately by our country. The government has adopted a strategy for setting up a local distribution network, but it takes time as well as around 300 million of euros.

With the passage of the TAP pipeline in our country, Albania becomes part of the European natural gas network, but that does not mean that this energy source can be used immediately for the needs of the country. It is said for a mid-term period, but this objective is also remote.

In the government's plan for the development of the natural gas sector in Albania and the identification of priority projects, it is underlined that the distribution of natural gas within the country is not expected to happen before 2020.

Indeed, neither the funds nor the way of setting up the gas network in Albania have been secured.

The government has foreseen the construction of three main transmission lines. The construction time goes up to three years, and the amount required is 185 million of euros.

While 110 million of euros are needed for distribution. For the moment, only the public company that will handle the gas network is set up as a unit.

In paper the first beneficiaries should be the industry sectors, more specifically the TEC of Vlora, but this also requires a serious investment to adapt technology from the use of oil to the use of natural gas.
