The afforestation of the Vlora city hills with about 50,000 olive trees will recreate the green crown of this tourist town, damaged for years by human fires.
The olive tree has been a symbol of the coastal city, and the Municipality of Vlora undertook this initiative within the framework of the national plan for the greening of the territory, which aims at planting 20 million and 200 thousand trees by 2020.
The municipality predicts that the olives be planted in the deforested hills of the city. Mayor of Vlora, Dritan Leli says that "based on square meters, we will donated to every citizen an olive tree for free."While Prefect Flamur Mamaj, in a statement to ATSH said that in support of this initiative are engaged all institutions, business and citizens.
"The initiative aims to increase the green area not only in the city, but throughout the region. The donation of the olives to the citizens will also take place in those places where there has been damages from the fires. The Prefecture has supported the municipality in realizing this initiative, engaging institutions to raise green areas," said Mamaj for Albanian Teleghraphyc Agency.
This initiative is well received by the community, Mamaj said, while simultaneously calling on citizens to complete the relevant documentation at the Vlora municipality in order to return the missing green to the city.
In our country it is thought that the ancient olives are about 3000 years old with a perimeter of up to 3 meters.
Their cultivation is a tradition, while the Albania's olive oil is already known in the world markets.
