According to statistics published recently by the Greek Immigration Ministry, in 2017 there has been a significant increase in asylum applications by Albanian citizens.
Official data shows that in 2017 there were about 2450 Albanian citizens who sought asylum in Greece, a figure this is quite high compared to 2013, when there were only 419 requests. Albanians rank after Syrians, Pakistanis, Afagans and Iraqis in the total number of asylum seekers in Greece. But out of 2450 requests, only 1504 passed the first selection procedure, according to the Greek asylum legislation, while to the rest was rejected this request.According to official data from Greece, for the period 2013 - 2018, the asylum applicationsonly has been granted only to 8 Albanian citizens. Even in the first two months of 2018, asylum applications by Albanians remain high in Greece. According to the Greek Immigration Ministry, for this period, 460 requests from Albanians have been registered, of which almost half have passed the first stage of selection.
