The courts in Turkey have so far completed 104 judicial proceedings against the so called FETO terrorist organization for attempting a military coup and have imposed prison sentences for a total of 797 accused, including life imprisonment for 586 defendants, reports Anadolu Agency.
The terrorist organization FETO, through its infiltrated civil servants, police and other Turkish institutions on July 15, 2016, made a surprise military attack in Turkey, while the Turkish Prosecutor's Office launched a number of investigations against coup plotters.So far, 283 judgments have been launched in the courts, in which the leaders of the coup were brought to justice.
To date, 104 court proceedings have been completed, in which 253 accused have been imposed multiple life imprisonment convictions, 31 of them have received fourfold life imprisonment sentences and 4 accused have been granted triple life sentences.
Among the prisoners of life imprisonment are 22 former Turkish army generals, then 166 officers, 31 non-commissioned officers, one sergeant, 17 recruits and four military engineers.
333 accused were sentenced to life sentences, while 211 others were sentenced to 1 to 20 years in prison.
Among the accused with life sentence are 4 former generals, 109 officers, 46 non-commissioned officers, 51 sergeants, 50 recruits and 5 police officers.
In parallel with this, a large number of defendants have been acquitted of allegations of involvement in the attempted coup.
The first decision at the trial for FETO's coupons was issued early last year, and in the past few months dozens of verdicts have been issued by the completed procedures.
