One of the main and most astonishing news in the Albanian media today is the statement by Albanian-American Peter Lumaj, a reputed Republican in Albanian immigration circles in the United States; he had an offer from President Trump to take up the ambassador's post in Albania but refused.
"I was offered a job to be the next ambassador in Albania to represent the United States, but I dismissed it, because I think I can serve the state better than being overseas," revealed the "secret" Lumaj for the Republican Committee.
But who is Albanian Peter Lumaj and how has he managed to get to the high spheres of American politics and more specifically within the Republican Party?Currently, Peter Lumaj is a renowned lawyer on immigration issues. In the pre-election period and during the presidential vote in the United States, he was also a great supporter of Donald Trump.
The name of Peter Lumaj became known not only in the US political circles in February 2012, when he, as the first Albanian in history, is born in our country and ran for the United States senator. The Lawer for Immigration and criminall issues from Fairfield was at that time, one of the five Republicans seeking to represent the party in November's general election to replace the Senator Joe Lieberman.
Peter Lumaj, a 50-year-old, married and father of three children, escaped communist Albania 29 years ago in 1989 to arrive in the United States.He initially acquired the status of permanent resident and five years later is naturalized as an American citizen.
"I put my life in danger to come here. I do not want to see children or the children of my children living under a similar system where the government controls their lives," he said speaking about his dangerous adventure.
