The new map made publicly available by World Health Organisation shows that 33% of Albanians consume beer, 47.1% strong alcoholic beverages and 19.3% wine (0.6% unspecified).
This map shows the worldwide distribution of the most consumed alcoholic beverages (beer, wine, strong alcoholic drinks or the like).
The main findings of the report are:- More than 45% of the total alcohol registered is consumed in the form of various alcoholic beverages, mainly in Southeast Asia and the Western Pacific.
- Approximately 36% of total registered alcohol is consumed in the form of beer. Beer consumption is the highest in the US Region.
- Usually, the high level of general consumption is found in countries such as the Russian Federation, which show high consumption of beer and the consumption of strong alcoholic beverages
- Wine consumption as a percentage of total alcohol registered is globally quite low (8.6%), with significant levels of alcohol consumed in the form of wine in the European region (26.4%).
- Other beverages other than beer, alcoholic beverages and wine (for example, fortified wines, rice wine or other fermented beverages made from maize) have the largest share of total recorded consumption in the African region (48.2% ) and in the Eastern Mediterranean (31.3%).
According to the report, most of the alcoholic beverages consumed in the sense of the highest percentage by liters do not necessarily reflect the overall level of consumption of this type of alcoholic beverage. For example, in India, strong alcoholic beverages are the most consumed alcoholic beverages, but this does not mean that the level of alcohol consumption is high, but the percentage of total alcohol consumed in this category is high.
