The "Open Door" Albanian movie has been selected among three films from the region to appear in Cannes in work in progress.
The screenplay by Florenc Papas and Ajola Daja, directed by Papas, is sponsored by the National Cinematography Center. The producer Eno Milkani expressed his enthusiasm for this presentation in Cannes.
The film will appear before festival distributors and programmers, and in this context there will be discussions about the selling or sending to the festivals, while the film is in the process."Open Door" tells the story of two sisters taking a trip, facing frequently with the strength of the traditional-patriarchal system. The main character is Elma, a young Albanian girl who lives illegally in Italy. She is pregnant and the baby's father is already in jail. After the deportation by Italian police, not knowing were to ask for help, she decides to return to her great sister, Rudina.
Both sisters will start a long drive by car to the home of their traditional father. As Rudina drives the car, Elma will do whatever it can to avoid going there. The film focuses on three characters, two sisters Rudina and Elma, and Rudina's five-year-old son.
The topic that is addressed is the clash between traditional and modern among generations which is present also today. "Open Door" deals with this topic even though it does not require to say that our entire society is traditional and patriarchal, but wants to say that these forms still exist and are present in society.
The film festival this year takes place in Cannes from 8 to 18 May, and is one of the world's cinematic events.
