In a poll published on Sunday by the Greek paper 'Ethnos', 87% of Greeks consider Turkey the number one enemy of their country, and 63% express fears of the possibility of a "hot" incident between the two states.
Asked if they consider an enemy state as one of the neighbors, apart from Turkey, 47% of them consider Albania as an enemy of Greece, and 45% the former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia, while a minority of a small of 10% shares the same opinion for Bulgaria.Regarding the question of how likely it is to threaten territorial integrity from neighbors, for Albania, only 27% said "yes". The same percentages goes almost the same for the former Yugoslav Republic, and when it comes to Turkey, 78% of Greeks feel threatened by the eastern neighbor.
According to the survey of whether these countries will integrate into the EU, 56% of Greeks believe that Albania's attitude towards Greece and Macedonia will improve, while for Turkey more than 64% think it will not happen.
Also, seven out of ten Greeks believe that diplomacy should be the main driving force for foreign policy, while 82% say that cooperation between the Balkan countries will improve the level of well being in the region.
