The Swiss Supreme Court will help French authorities over a suspected tax evasion involving Monica Bellucci, who had also a role in the latest James Bond film. The Swiss Federal Court has received a request for assistance from the French tax authorities for bank account information on financial assets of Bellucci in Switzerland.
The trial of the court reveals that the 54-year-old Italian actress of Albanian roots is suspected of tax evasion in France in the period 2011-2013. Bellucci had declared her fiscal stance in London but the French authorities disagreed, as she was still with her ex-husband, Vincent Cassel. It is also suspected that she had a secret account in Switzerland.Bellucci's French lawyer Marc Vaslin said that French authorities should never have been allowed to initiate proceedings. "This is not about a resident in France, who is hiding money in Switzerland," was quoted in Tages-Anzeiger. Bellucci has not resided in France, he said.
While Bellucci rejected the suspicions of false disclosure to the tax authorities that weight on her, denouncing the information as malicious and intentional.
"I refute those ugly and deliberately information by some media about my fiscal situation," the actress announced in a statement following a "Mediapart" article stating that the French tax administration had asked the Swiss authorities bank details regarding the assets in Switzerland.
"Although I work mostly outside France, I have chosen France as a place of residence. In that sense, I pay taxes in France," Bellucci said.
"In the recent control over my fiscal situation, I gave to the French tax authorities all the required elements and information necessary to resolve this issue. I am fully up to date with my obligations in France," she added.
