The son of an Albanian emigrant, a former mafia member, now repentant, linked to the famous Gambino Crime family in the 1980s and 90s, is received in Pristina with applause.
John Alite is visiting Kosovo along with his two sons, to see, as he says: how does the Albanians of Kosovo live. And after the first impressions, he says laughing, he feels regret of why he didn't created his own "army "composed by the Albanians.
"If I could know that Albanians are so brave, I would not be locked in the Italian mafia, I would create my own army," Alite said.Being of Albanian origin and not of Italian origin, he could not officially become one of the Mafia caps. In 2011 he was sentenced to 10 years in prison for charges as a participant in a series of crimes.
He co-operated with the US federal authorities, testifying against the Mafia family Gambino, Gotti, Charles Carneglia and his former associates, testimonies that shocked the Gambino Mafia Empire, the last of Cosa Nostra.
"I was part of the Italian mafia, which is very famous in America. In the 1980s it was the most famous mafia family and with the most money, I worked that time with them for many years. Since 2017 I am free, I have also published a book that is censored," Alite said.
According to him, the book is censored in several ways, in order to avoid the truth. He said he has always been the talk but, according to him, mafia bosses have begun to work behind his back.
"What characterizes us Albanians everywhere and in everything is that we survive. In the world of crime is a big problem, but managed ti survive. Not all nations have this ability so we have to develope further this ability. The heart, the courage and the desire to respect the life, if you pass all these tests, this shows of who you realy are. I succeeded, this is the Albanian tradition," he said.
