The American multimillionaire George Soros has come up against the new Italian government by throwing heavy accusations against the two political forces that make up the ruling coalition, the League and Five Stars.
As a honorary guest at the Italian Economy Festival held in Trento, George Soros gave a strong critical message to Giuseppe Kontes's executive.
"I am very preoccupied - he said - because the new Italian government is very close to Russia. George Soros's charges add tone when questioning "whether Putin really supports the League?"
"The Italian public opinion, has the right to know if Matteo Salvini is in Putin's payroll," Soros sai.
But the reaction of Interior Minister Matteo Salvini was immediate.
"We have never taken 1 lira, 1 euro, 1 ruble from Russia, said Salvini. I consider Putin, he said, among the best of the heads of state, but I am ashamed of the fact that in Italy is invited to speak a speculator without scrupulous as Mr. Soros. "
Soros had expressed his statement to the new Italian governmenthad day before in an article published by Corriere della Sera.
"Historically Italy has been one of the biggest supporters of the EU, because its citizens did not trust their government, and Italian governments tend to be corrupt. But Europe should not punish the Italians for blame of their governments. The outcome of the upcoming elections will depend heavily on how the European Union will react to instability in Italy."
