The hand signs like an eagle in flight, is the Albanian hallmark way of communication in case of joy, and this hallmark is an inspiration to Albanians everywhere, as a sign of belonging.
Xherdan Shaqiri and Granit Xhaka, two Albanian players, who are actively involved with the Swiss national team after scoring each one a goals against Serbia, in the match of the groups at the World Cup that is taking place in Russia, seem to have inspired the leaders of the beer "Brauerei" in Switzerland to change the label of their product.
The Albanian Telegraphic Agency has contacted David Schurtenberger, General Director of the company "Bier Brauerei". Talking about the label, he announced that the finding was a beautiful and spontaneous coincidence, seeing the celebration made by Swiss footballers of Albanian descent."Initially, 'Doppelradler' was thought to be a joke for our Facebook page, but now we have decided to make a special edition with this label. No new recipe was used, our main beer, the origina, only has changed its label. The reason for this joke was of course the celebration of the eagles' gesture by Jaka and Shaqiri. This caused controversy and debade in Switzerland," Schurtenberger said.
"Swiss nationalists accused the players of being nationalists (not the real one). Some of them, who still live in the 19th century, said that they are not really Swiss, their hearts will be beaten only for Kosovo and Albania. This is, of course, absurd, and we wanted to remove something from this idiotic discussion through a joke. As you may know, lemonade mixed beer in Germany is called "Adler". The German word for the Albanian eagle is "Doppeladler", which means exactly "double eagle". So far, everyone knows this word in Switzerland. If you put an "R" between "Doppel" and "Adler" then get the word "Doppelradler", which again suits to this beer," he said.
"We are happy with the success of the Swiss football team. Whoever plays for it is Swiss and represents our country. We do not wonder too much about whether the player has been an immigrant or if his forefathers were not Swiss. And we know that the team would not have been so successful if these big Albanian-rooted players (and of course others) would not play. Personally, I was not happy when I saw Xhakan and Shaqiri (and later Captain Lichtsteiner) celebrating that way. Not because they wanted to show their relationship with the "old" homeland, but because I was afraid that such a thing could be a deliberate provocation to Serbia. Politics should be separated as far as possible from the sport, so FIFA really lost. And I was afraid that FIFA would give suspensions and not just fines.
Of course, now we hope that Switzerland will become a world champion and then send half of the trophy to Albania / Kosovo," said David Schurtenberger, General Director of Brauerei Beer.
