Europa Nostra Mission experts expressed enthusiasm for the values represented by the churches of Voskopoja and Vithkuq, suggesting the preparation of the file for these Churches to be evaluated with the status of protection as a world heritage by UNESCO.
The assessment was made during a mission meeting with Culture Minister Mirela Kumbaro and the Director of the Institute of Monuments, Arta Dollani. They hosted in a working meeting the Europa Nostra expert mission, represented by Board Members Paolo Vitti, Peter Bond and Lourdes Llorens Abando, technical experts of the European Investment Bank.After visiting the Voskopoja and Vithkuq churches, Vitti is impressed by the architectural and artistic values that follow these monuments of culture, inspired by the Byzantine cult heritage, as "Unique Treasures" in the region and beyond. The mission expressed enthusiasm and suggested the preparation of a dossier for these churches to be evaluated with the status of defense as a world heritage by UNESCO.
The meeting exchanged views on future cooperation by setting up joint expert groups in evaluating, developing expertise or developing joint activities in support of restorers, iconographers, restoration techniques, etc.
