For many Albanians may seems like an inappropriate food, but the snails are very popular in neighbouring countries.
For this reason a 32-year-old from the village of Sukth, Durres has turned into snails-growing business and exporter.Ervin, who by profession is a psychologist, has turned his passion into work and although the first attempt failed, after consultation with some Italian specialists it seems that everything goes best.
These days he is preparing to start harvesting in his farm.
It takes one year and four months for a snail to get ready for the market. While Ervin managed to make about 8 tons of production at a price of 4.5 euros per kilogram.
Over the next few years, the 32-year-old aims also to harvest snails products. The work on these parcels has just begun, while Ervin sees possible the creation of a company.
The growth of the snail has begun to expand in many areas of the country. All production is exported. Farmers like Ervin managed to sell overseas in these 9 months, 90 tons of snails, worth almost a million euros. The main destination of this product is Bosnia with 54.4%, but also Greece, Serbia, Romania and Italy.
