Tirana, Korça and Elbasan remain the cities with the higjest level of air pollution.
But unlike the other two cities, Korça has most of its air pollution only during Autumn and Winter, when the residents use wood for heating. According to data from the National Environment Agency, there is an an overrun of the EU annually norm.In the area near the Municipality of Tirana, the level of dust particles is 56% higher than EU average.
"Air pollution comes mainly from transport and is at 50% or something more. The basic solution relates to the number of cars, in Tirana the number of cars per km2 is greater than Amsterdam or Berlin. In Tirana it is 3,000 or more per km / square. The density of the population is in correlation with pollution, the larger the population, the greater the pollution," says the specialist Lavdosh Feruni.
There are 557 thousand vehicles in our country, of which only in Tirana district are about 205 thousand, and in Elbasan 36950 vehicles. But what is the solution for reducing the level of pollution?
"Here are some elements that can improve the situation in terms of fuel quality, old cars, but these are not fundamental, marginal. The greater the number of cars, the greater the pollution, because the speed of traffic is reduced. Reducing pollutant emissions comes from policies for cars-free cities and we should encourage this, something is going to be done in Albania. "
Over 7 million people a year lose their lives from air pollution.
According to the World Health Organization, the vehicles and traditional cooking methods are two of the major causes of pollution in more than 4300 cities in 108 countries.
