France, one of the skeptical countries for the enlargement of the European Union gives another warning. From the city of Korça where he attended the ceremony of the 20th anniversary of the France-Albania alliance, the French Ambassador Christine Vasak appealed to the Albanian Opposition and Government to work together because there is not much time left to implement all the tasks left by the European Union on June 26.
"November is coming and time is running fast. Council conclusions of 26 June must be taken very seriously by the Albanian authorities, not only in words but also in practice. I think the Government and the Opposition know this. Council conclusions should be translated into facts. And there will be no opening negotiations for membership unless you take these conclusions seriously into practice on all issues," said the French ambassador. One of the issues highlighted by the council has been the election reform for which the French diplomat has expressed optimistic it will end in time. In June, France was amongst the 3 member countries of the European Union who insisted on postponing negotiations for next year, and in 2019 the toughest battle for Albania would be to convince official Paris that Albania deserves the opening of EU membership talks.
