The Municipalities and administrative units are one of the key links in the mechanism that fights domestic violence and gender-based violence.
The Center for Human Rights in Democracy and the Shelter for Raped Women and Girls in cooperation with the Municipality of Tirana is holding trainings since October with the 24 Administrative Units of the Municipality of Tirana, which have as their main focus the capacity building of the staff of these units based on in international and national legislation against domestic and women violence.This project aims to raise the awareness of state institutions and the community on violence against women and domestic violence in the municipalities of Kamza and Lezha and increase the capacity of public service providers for women victims of domestic violence.
The coordinator of this project, Borana Bita (Korumi) told the Albanian Telegraphic Agency that in addition to informing the service providers of the units of local self-government about the responsibilities that law No.9669, dated 18.12.2006 "On Measures against Violence in Family Relationships" changed, a particular focus is being devoted to the innovations that brought about changes to the Law on Violence.
She announced that the first training took place on 4 October, attended by social administrators, child protection workers and economic aid specialists at Administrative Units No. 4, Dajt, Shëngjergj and Zall Bastar.
Following this training, HRDC has dealt with three cases of domestic violence referred to by the Tirana Interdisciplinary Technical Team (ETN). Meanwhile, the Center for Human Rights in Democracy in January 2018 in cooperation with the Shelter for Raped Women and Girls has launched the implementation of the two-year project "Increasing Capacities of the Service Providers of Kamza and Lezha for Women/Girls Afected by All Forms of Violence "funded by the European Commission and implemented with the support of UN Women.
