Shkodra Lake shores being cleaned after more than 30 years

 For the first time after more than 30 years, the Shkodra Lake shore being cleaned, making it a visitable environment.

The Municipality of Shkodra has started work on cleaning the shore from the former slaughterhouse to the center of Shiroka and through the road to Zogaj to clear the territory from shrubs and inert, which have remained since the road was built.

The mayor of Shkodra, Voltana Ademi, said in a media announcement that "we are giving a positive example in a territory that is not used by holidaymakers and will be put into operation thanks to a work done by the people of Shkodra".

Additionally, Ademi emphasized that for the implementation of the project "Cleaning of the Drainage Channels Shkodra Municipality", 100 household heads of the most in need of families in Shkodra municipality have been employed, which is facilitated by the German Development Cooperation (GIZ).

According to her, for the improvement of the situation in the system of drainage channels and water shores besides Shkodra Lake is also being worked in the Administrative Units of Dajç, Bërdicë, Velipojë, Ana e Malit, Guri i Zi and Rrethina.

Shkodra Lake is located in the northwest of Albania and is the largest lake of the Balkan Peninsula. It is 43 km long and 14 km wide with the average depth of 7-10 m, with the deepest point of 44 m. Shkodra Lake is rich in fauna. About 250 species of birds are found in the lake and around it, where half are migratory and the rest lives on the shores of the lake.
