The topic of the health risk by air pollution has been in the center of discussions in Kosovo where the number of children with respiratory problems or lung disease has increased, according to pediatric data at the University Clinical Center of Kosovo.
Although there is no accurate data on how many children are affected or even die during the year, experts in this field, according to Radio Free Europe, say these health problems are related to polluted air. Air pollution in Kosovo, but especially in urban areas, is considered to be several times above the permissible norm. The UNOB office there has come up with a balance: this kind of air pollution causes 835 premature deaths every year ".
The biggest problems in children affected by respiratory illness are most noticeable during the Winter season, and polluted air is considered one of the causes.
Cases of illness have started to increase and according to experts, may last until May.
The United Nations (UN) latest report showed that air pollution causes 7 million deaths worldwide, while 92% of the nearly 4 billion people in the Asia-Pacific region are breathing toxic air.
