Several foreign embassies in Albania responded positively to yesterday's decision of the Serious Crimes Court, which sentenced 55 years in prison Emiliano Shullazi and 4 other members of his gang.
For the US embassy, which followed closely the process, this is "a significant step forward for Albanian citizens"."The Yesterday marked a significant step forward for Albanian citizens seeking and deserving real justice from their judicial system," the US embassy said.
"The decision taken is a victory for the rule of law in Albania," the embassy said, adding that Albanian citizens are now wondering who is in line.
The German ambassador, Sussane Schutz, also welcomed yesterday's Court decision to the Shullazi band.
"Yesterday's Court decisions show no one stands on the law, as underlined by the rule of law in Albania. It is important that Albanian justice continues to act against organized crime on the basis of the law," said Ambassador Schutz.
"Improving the balance of success in the fight against organized crime and corruption is one of Albania's central tasks on its path to the European Union," she said.
The court decision on the Shultz group was also welcomed by the British Embassy, which has been rumored that organized crime continues to aggravate economies, destroy lives, and damage communities.
The OSCE was also listed with the embassies who welcomed the court's decision, pointing out that "criminals have a place in prison".
"The OSCE is encouraged by the operations of the recent months against organized crime, and together with the Albanian citizens who respect the law, we expect to see more arrests and sentences of dangerous criminals," the OSCE's presence in Tirana said.
"We support the Government of Albania's determination to escalate the fight against organized crime and corruption," the OSCE office in Tirana said.
