Road accidents are among the biggest causes of of deaths of young ages in Albania. According to Albanian State Institute of Statistics (INSTAT) data during January-November 2018, 190 people were killed in road accidents throughout Albania.
In November 2018, 130 road accidents occurred out of 177 accidents in November 2017, down to 26.6% compared to the same period of a year earlier.In November 2018, the number of casualties was 171 people out of 235 that was the previous year, down to 27.2%.
The number of casualties of 22 months of 2018 is 2,129, down by 12.8%, compared to the same period of a year earlier.
In November 2018, the number of deaths from road accidents is 22 out of 20 that was one year earlier. In the eleventh month of 2018, the number of deaths from road accidents was 190 out of 206 in the same period of the previous year.
According to INSTAT in November 2018, the road accidents in 75.4% of the cases occurred as a result of the driver's behavior.
In the first half of 2018, the road accidents in 21.9% of cases, occurred as a result of pedestrian behavior. During this period, the number of pedestrian accidents decreased by 10.1% compared to the same period of the previous year.
Roads in Albania kill more than any other country in Europe, along with Bosnia and the former Soviet Union countries.
The World Health Organization has published new data on deaths in road accidents per 100,000 inhabitants. With 13.7 deaths per 100 thousand inhabitants, Albania ranks among the countries with the highest levels of deaths in accidents in Europe.
