The theme of the Holocaust remembrance and education activities this year is - Holocaust Remembrance: Demand and Defend Your Human Rights'. This theme encourages youth to learn from the lessons of the Holocaust, act against discrimination and defend democratic values in their communities, at a time when the spread of Neo-Nazism and hate groups fuels the rising antisemitism and other forms of hatred around the world. The theme highlights the 70th anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights and the Convention on the Prevention and Punishment of the Crime of Genocide.
One of the main activities has to do with Albania and its role in saving the Jews. "An Issue of Humanity: The Salvation of Jews in Albania during the Holocaust" is the theme of the activity. The details the UN gives is as follows:

Albania's response to the difficult situation of the Jewish people during World War II remains a powerful example of compassion in the face of Nazi brutality during the Holocaust. The Public Information Department, in cooperation with Albania's Permanent Mission to the United Nations, will organize a multimedia program to raise awareness and appreciate the rescue work by the Albanians of the Jewish people during World War II. Speakers include Mr. Ditmir Bushati, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Albania; Ambassador Ronald Lauder, President of the World Jewish Congress; Dr. Ardit Bido, Director of National Archives in Albania; Dr. Anna Kohen, whose family was rescued in Albania during the Holocaust and Mr. David Estrin, founder of the youth organization "Together We Recall". DPI will moderate the discussion.
