The fifth day of Albanian student protests |
Several thousand students of Albanian public universities held a protest rally in front of the ministry of education for the fifth day. They demand the halving of study tariffs and other facilities for the study period.
Students said they were distrustful to negotiate with the Government, so they decided not to accept any talks or negotiations, but simply expect their requests to be filled by the authorities.Protesters say they were insulted by Prime Minister Rama's statements that it was about some poor students. So they went out in thousands across the streets of Tirana and other university cities to show that the state abused with the money of their families. They say in their rallies that the government is making more expensive the studies with additional measures, further complicating the livelihood of the university period.
The protest started from public universities in Tirana and soon the students of the universities of Durres, Korça, Elbasan, Shkodra, Vlora joined them. Many of them traveled to the capital to attend the Tirana rallies.
Even students of Gjirokastra's 'Eqrem Çabej' University joined Sunday's protests, since they were the last ones to date not included in public protests. At a rally in front of the University, they demanded to stop the corruption, lowering tariffs, improving dormitory conditions.
The government met one of the points of protesters' demands and expressed readiness for dialogue on other topics, but the students said they would continue the rallies until all requests were met.
